At Onecom we like to help communities out whenever we can, and that’s why you will have seen our branding supporting many UK causes, from charity football matches to events in schools.
However, as far as we know we have never reached out as far as Africa – until now! We’re looking forward to sponsoring our very own “Onecom well”, which will provide a much-needed source of clean and fresh drinking water for those where supplies are hard to find.
How did this come to be? Well… we are aware of the importance of keeping our teams hydrated throughout the working day, and so we make sure all our people have a regular supply of fresh drinking water.
To help us achieve this, we have decided to invest in watercoolers from AquAid – and with each purchase an automatic donation is made to The Africa Trust.
These funds are used to build ‘Elephant Pumps’ – a modified version of an age-old Chinese rope pulley system. A pump is currently being installed in Africa on our behalf, and Onecom’s name will be proudly displayed on our well.
To date AquAid have built over 8,000 such Elephant Pumps across parts of Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe; and have donated in excess of £16 million to charity. We’re “well happy” to have played our part!
