Onecom staff have chosen YoungMinds as their charity of the year as the company launches a focus on health and wellbeing for 2019 and beyond.
YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity for children and young people’s mental health, was selected in a vote open to staff at Onecom’s headquarters in Hampshire and offices around the UK.
More than 400 staff at Onecom will support the charity with fundraising activities throughout the year.
At the same time, the company has launched an enhanced wellness programme for its employees, beginning with the appointment and training of six “mental health first aiders” who will provide support for colleagues affected by mental health or wellbeing issues.
Onecom is also launching tailored training sessions for staff on resilience and stress management, and a telephone line that staff can call for support, backed by face-to-face counselling if needed.
The wellness programme works in tandem with Onecom’s Employee Plus programme, which supports staff learning and development and offers discounts on gym memberships and personal training to help employees enjoy positive and productive time out of working hours.
Ben Dowd, Onecom CEO, said: “We recognise that our people are our biggest asset, and happy healthy staff are crucial for us to deliver great service and happy customers.
“We are committed to being an excellent employer that nurtures and value its staff, and this programme is designed to ensure that every single person who works for Onecom knows that they are supported in any mental health challenges they face.
“At the same time, we recognise the importance of good mental health provision in the wider community, and that is why our staff have chosen to support Young Minds in helping young people and their families access mental health support. We are looking forward to working closely with YoungMinds in 2019 and to raising a significant sum in support of its valuable work.”
Diane Gault, Director of Fundraising at YoungMinds, said:“We are delighted that Onecom has chosen to support our charity over the next year. Their fundraising will allow us to continue fighting for a future where all young minds are supported through life, whatever the challenges. We very much look forward to working with Onecom in the year ahead.”
