We answer our customer’s top questions on 5G
We’ve all heard a lot about 5G in recent weeks and here at Onecom, we are getting a lot of interest from our customers. That’s why we thought we’d share some of the questions they’re asking to help you decide when the right time to buy into 5G business broadband is for you.
Considering 5G but not sure if it’s really ready? We answer some of the questions being put to us by our customers.
What 5G phones are available?
Currently, there are just a handful of 5G phones on the market. At Onecom, we are stocking the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G.
When are more 5G devices going to be available?
We expect to see at least one more device hit our shelves this year. We’ll keep you posted on new phones and the latest news on the 5G network rollout.
There is also a Vodafone 5G Gigacube available, which is a portable and simple-to-use alternative to broadband.
In particular, where’s the 5G iPhone?
According to Forbes, it’s coming in 2020.
Why would I pay more just for faster speeds when I can only get 5G in a few places?
So far Vodafone has rolled 5G out to 15 cities (22 by the end of the year), and EE has hit 6 (16 by end of the year). O2 and Three will also launch this year.
We don’t expect to see UK-wide network coverage for at least eighteen months, and it could take up to 5 years to complete the rollout. If you aren’t in one of these areas on a regular basis, it makes sense to wait.
However, if you are in a 5G area, it’s great news. 5G offers speeds up to ten times faster than 4G – around 500Mbps. That’s faster than a lot of Wi-Fi connections. But it’s not just the speed that you’ll benefit from. It’s the lack of delays, disruptions and the ability to connect in real-time that really sets 5G apart from previous network generations.
If you’re not in a 5G area, you could instead benefit from Unlimited data tariffs that Vodafone has just announced. Find out more about our business mobile phone contracts.
When will it be available in my area?
Currently, 5G is available in 15 cities through Onecom and Vodafone. These are London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bristol, Birkenhead, Bolton, Gatwick, Lancaster, Newbury, Plymouth, Stoke-On-Trent and Wolverhampton.
A further 7 will go live by the end of the year.
You can also get 5G in 6 cities via Onecom on the EE network: London, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Belfast, Manchester and Cardiff.
What are the benefits of moving to 5G right now?
If 5G isn’t in your area yet, your 5G device will enable you to be 5G ready. These devices aren’t just about faster speeds. they also showcase amazing cameras, exquisite, cinematic screen definition and super-fast charging. These are ultra-powerful models compared to the 4G models that are on the market currently.
It also means that when 5G does arrive, all you need to do is update your software, so you can access 5G a lot faster than if you were to wait until the network rolls out in your area.
How can I get 5G if I’m already in a contract?
If you are already in a contract, it’s still worth talking to our team to see if you are eligible for an early upgrade or if we can help you find a better deal than you are currently on.
Do I need a 5G device to get an Unlimited tariff?
No. The Unlimited tariffs are available to everyone. Moving to a Business Unlimited tariff will also mean you are 5G ready when the time to upgrade your phone suits you.
We’ll keep you posted on all the updates on 5G business broadband, Unlimited and new devices coming on the market and you can always contact us if you want to find out more.
