The Government has promised to help Hampshire residents and businesses to get faster broadband services.
The promise from the Government has been to subsidise connections for those who are struggling with slower services. Those who cannot get download speeds of at least of 2Mbps will be able to qualify for a discount on satellite broadband services. The package is worth around £350.
This particular offer will enable the Government to meet the target it set for the end of 2015 in terms of the percentage of coverage in the country for faster broadband services. There are other schemes in place that will help the Government to meet other targets. Hampshire has struggled in recent months when compared with other counties for superfast broadband services. The offer will be extended to 300,000 residential and business properties across the country.
Ed Vaizey, the digital economy minister, has said that the rollout of superfast broadband has been able to reach 3.5 million commercial and residential properties and that strong progress is being made, but there is still a long way to go. The new scheme will be able to give instant access to the faster services that are needed.
It should be noted that those who want to apply for the scheme will need to commit to it for a minimum of 12 months, and they will also have to cover any additional installation costs above the funding amount. The Government’s project is on track to reach nationwide coverage of 95% by the end of 2017.
