5G Ultra: Vodafone's Next-Gen Mobile Network Now Available on iPhone 15 & 16 Series

With the launch of the iPhone 15 and 16 series, Vodafone is excited to announce that these devices are now fully compatible with their 5G Standalone network, also known as 5G Ultra. Offering faster speeds, enhanced coverage, and a more reliable connection, 5G Ultra transforms daily life and work. Previously available only on Samsung devices, this compatibility marks a significant expansion in the availability of Vodafone’s cutting-edge network technology.

Greater Coverage and Connectivity

A standout feature of 5G Ultra is its expanded coverage, now reaching up to one million more customers across the UK. This marks a significant upgrade from the previous 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) network, delivering fewer connectivity issues in busy urban areas and better service in previously hard-to-reach locations.

More Capacity for Busy Areas

Busy areas like station platforms, festivals, and stadiums often struggle with connectivity due to the large number of devices competing for network access. However with 5G Ultra, up to one million devices per square kilometre can connect simultaneously, allowing uninterrupted calls, streaming, and communication, even in the most crowded environments.

Enhanced Battery Life

Vodafone’s 5G Ultra also offers significant improvements in power efficiency. It can extend your phone’s battery life by up to 25%, providing up to three extra hours of use on a single charge. Whether you’re traveling, working remotely, or enjoying a day out, this means less time worrying about battery life and more time staying connected.

Lightning-Fast Latency

For tasks that require real-time performance, such as video conferencing or live streaming, latency is a critical factor. Vodafone’s 5G Ultra offers latency as low as 1 millisecond, a significant improvement compared to the 50ms typically seen with 4G networks. This ultra-low latency enables near-instant connectivity, making remote work and streaming smoother, faster, and more responsive.

How to Access 5G Ultra on Your New iPhone 15 or 16

To ensure you can take full advantage of Vodafone’s 5G Ultra network, you’ll need to meet a couple of basic requirements:

  1. Update to iOS 18 – This upcoming iOS software update will enable 5G Ultra connectivity on both iPhone 15 and 16 series devices.
  2. SIM Card Compatibility – If you’re still using a physical SIM that was issued before April 2022 or an eSIM issued before January 2024, you’ll need to replace it with a new SIM that supports 5G Ultra.
