Cloud Technology And The Traditional Office

Technology will continue to push boundaries, and with it will come changes to the way business in the UK and worldwide is conducted.

With cloud technology and the rapid rise of cloud-based services, management and staff no longer need a permanent desk, and will work from home more and more. Office space will no longer be a “must have” thing to run a business, and pay-as-you-use may be a more cost-effective alternative. This is according to Tim Meredith, an expert in unified communications (UC).

Learn how to make the most of a multi-cloud environment and avoid the pitfalls in our complete guide to multi-cloud management.

Mr Meredith says: “Floor space is one of the biggest outgoings for the majority of businesses and yet it is largely becoming an unnecessary expense. The nine-to-five shift is dying as more businesses allow their employees to work flexibly, which means workers no longer need to be desk-bound and there is less need for fixed office space.” He added that in the UK alone, the number of people that work from home has increased by 45 per cent since the start of the millennium.

The rapid rollout of 4G connectivity and superfast broadband across Britain is helping companies to get away from the old style traditional office. More and more workers from every work sector are now able to access very easily the software tools that used to be available only in the office. These can now be used from home via cloud and VPNs.

With the amount of British people working from home reaching 4 million, technical “mobile device solutions” have come to the aid of firms so that they can monitor the activity and productivity of their workers remotely.

It is clear that by taking away the confines of the office, businesses now have to create new processes to face the hi-tech challenges that the future holds.
